How Changing My View of Meditation Turned It into a Daily Practice

When I first began exploring spirituality and connection, meditation was suggested most. I would try to sit or lie down, relax, and breathe, but silencing my thoughts felt impossible. I would catch myself going through my to do list or wondering how much time had passed. This left me tired, frustrated, and with the belief that I simply could not meditate.

I still believe that meditation is one of the most effective ways to connect to the Higher Self, guides, or higher dimensions. This has been confirmed in my sessions when asking the Higher Selves of clients how to connect. The answer was always the same. Find a moment of silence. Meditate.

But meditation does not have to look the way we picture it. It is not always about sitting cross legged, eyes closed, focusing on the breath, and pushing away distraction.

What Works for Me

Through my own experience I found other ways that became a form of meditation that worked for my specific energetic system:

  • Listening to music
(here is my Spotify playlist that includes music I use to connect)
  • Journaling without editing
  • Walking and/or spending time in nature
  • Taking a shower
  • Driving
  • Cooking
  • Doing the dishes

Doing the dishes while listening to music was the first time I was able to have a conversation with what was offering me insight. It told me I was trying too hard and that the effort itself was creating resistance and static.

Shortly before that encounter I had gone into a kind of hibernation. I stopped following everything I had read in books or online and decided to pause. My guides had been right. I had been trying to replicate what worked for others rather than using it as a starting point to find my own way.

I used to believe the source of connection was found by looking upward, into the spiritual realms. What I discovered is that for my energetic system, being grounded is what opens the channel.

The warm water and repetitive movement of doing the dishes would relax my mind while the music kept the left side of my brain occupied and the right side open, putting me into a light natural trance.

Why This Works

These everyday actions bring us into the present. We are all beings made up of vibrating energy, not unlike electricity or radio frequencies. Grounding allows for proper function, stabilisation, clearer reception, and less interference.

But we all radiate different frequencies, which is why one approach does not work for everyone. You need to find what works for your specific requirements. As I have written about elsewhere, there is no right or wrong. Everything is information available for you to make the choices that align best with you.

Redefining meditation as an act of being fully present opened more channels for me than any traditional practice ever had.

Find the everyday action or combination of actions that brings you into awareness of yourself, your surroundings, and the space between the you and the You. Take a moment to stop and trust the parts of you that know you best.

Every moment is an opportunity to connect. Even if that moment is intentionally doing nothing at all.

Until next time, may you always be evergreen. Ever expanding, ever evolving, ever aligned.
